The Plan

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the first Desert Foothills Chapter ride from Bicycle Vibe. It was a beautiful day with a little bit of wind during the up hill first half of the ride but the return leg was mostly downhill with a tailwind.

You are receiving this because you indicated "Desert Foothills" as an interest area in your AZBikeClub.com profile. If you've gotten this information from other sources, I apologize for the duplication.

The Desert Foothills chapter rides start from Bicycle Vibe located at 2605 W Carefree Hwy (about 1.1 miles east of I-17 on the south side of the road). Amber Mellano, owner of Bicycle Vibe has been very supportive and is offering ABC members a 10% discount on parts and accessories. Each week's route will be posted on the on-line calendar at AZBikeClub.com.  I have mapped 8 routes on TrimbleOutdoors.com, which all start and end at Bicycle Vibe. These routes are found on Bicycling.com or TrimbleOutdoors.com as:

http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/Search/TripSearch.aspx#ABCBicycleVibe

The start times are:

6:30 a.m. May, June, July, Aug, Sept
7:00 a.m. April and Oct
8:00 a.m. Nov and March
9:00 a.m. Dec, Jan, and Feb

Bicycle Vibe opens at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.

I normally average around 14 to 16 mph. I am planning a 2 to 3 hour ride as a rule of thumb. I translate that into 30 to 45 miles. I try hard to avoid out-and-back routes in favor of loops and lollipops. From week-to-week, I try to cover the different points of the compass. I apply the buddy system to group rides. We may not stay together for the whole ride, but nobody should have to ride alone. During the ride, the group is always free to alter the posted plan.
